Monaco continue to strive to beat the league leaders this week, as they face the team directly behind them in the league standings. But can they continue their stellar record at home this season?
Preview for Ligue 1
At the end of 2020, Monaco was out of Europe and the title challenge seemed a million miles away. However, their level in the second half of the season was nothing short of exceptional. They have only lost once since the start of the year, with that defeat on the road to Strasbourg in March. Monaco has won 14 of the 17 games it has played since January, and has performed excellently in its last two matches. Monaco entered this match after winning its previous five matches. They haven’t conceded a goal in those five matches, and have conceded only once in their last nine matches. Monaco is just two points from the top of the league and one point behind Paris Saint-Germain. This weekend’s win over Lyon could be a huge win in terms of the season.
Lyon couldn’t keep up with the pace set by the top three in the Ligue 1 title race, and that has pushed them down to fourth place in the league standings. It would be very disappointing if Lyon missed a place in the Champions League this season, but his current form will need improvement to boost his chances. Lyon had won only twice in their previous six matches, losing last weekend to Lille. Lyon led 2-0 in that match, but three goals from Lille turned the match upside down. This will be another mega game this weekend.
Monaco and Lyon head-on match
The overall record between these two teams in recent seasons is very equal. Lyon have won three of the previous four League matches, while Monaco has won two of the previous four in all competitions. Lyon won the match between the two teams 4-1 earlier in the season. Monaco, however, took revenge on its rivals with a 2–0 victory in the Coupe de France quarter-final two weeks ago.
Predict the Monaco-Lyon match
This is a weekend game in France, and it can go either way. However, Monaco have been excellent at home this season, losing just one out of 11 matches. Our preference is to win our home country.
