A 78-year-old motorcyclist died after a crash heading north on I-495 Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The motorcyclist, who was not identified, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash near Exit 83 in Westford, Massachusetts State Police said.
Officials said the motorcyclist was traveling in the center lane around 3:30 p.m., but when he switched to the left lane, he struck the back of an SUV that was stopped in traffic. The motorcycle then collided with a third vehicle, MSP said.
The drivers of both passenger vehicles were uninjured, officials said.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said at 4 p.m. that the two left lanes were closed because of the crash. The MSP said the scene was cleared and all lanes were reopened by 6:40 p.m
A police spokesperson says the accident is still under investigation.
