MSNBC Ayman Mohyeldin said on Sunday that the vice chairman Kamala Harris takes the words freedom and liberty “right out of the Republican mouth.”
While the GOP has tried to claim those words for years, Harris and vice presidential candidate Tim Waltz takes them back in his campaign against Donald Trump.
Mohyeldin said there’s a reason it works.
“In recent decades, Republicans have stopped being the natural conduits for that message,” he said. “Not when they’re the ones fighting tooth and nail to control women’s bodies, or to control what books children can read, to control what bathrooms people can use.”
He noted that Beyonce even gave the Harris campaign permission to use her song “Freedom” to help drive home the message.
Mohyeldin said reclaiming liberty and freedom resonates not only with Democrats, but also with Republicans who don’t want to vote for Trump.
