“It should not be tolerated, whether it’s a student or a teacher,” parent Gina Morin told WHDH.
School administrators are investigating a teacher in Salem, New Hampshire, for posting a video on Facebook in which she used a racist term for blacks, officials said.
Amy Banks, a seventh-grade teacher at Woodbury School, is on leave pending the investigation, according to Boston25 News.
The dirt did not appear to be aimed at any particular individual, according to WHDH.
“It should not be tolerated, whether it’s a student or a teacher,” parent Gina Morin told WHDH.
According to a school committee official, Banks has not taught a class all year and was not actively working as a teacher when the video was posted.
Salem School Committee Chairman Mike Carney told WHDH that Banks’ comments are completely inappropriate.
“It’s kind of shocking to use a word like that,” Carney said. “There is no place for that in today’s society.”
While parents would like more transparency from middle school officials, the investigation is ongoing, according to Carney.
“She has rights as an employee and there is an investigation going on,” Carney said. “Anything that comes out of this investigation will be forwarded to the New Hampshire Department of Education.”
The original video is no longer posted or was made private on social media.
