Noah Lyles of the United States took the bronze medal on Thursday in Paris Olympicshis second consecutive Olympic third-place finish in the event.

Lyle’s time of 19.70 seconds was good for third. American Kenny Bednarek took the silver with a time of 19.62 seconds while Boston’s Letsile Teboco won the gold in 19.46.

On Sunday, Lyles took gold in the 100-meter final in a photo finish. His 0.005-second victory over Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson set up the potential for a historic double gold in sprinting’s two most prestigious events.

Jumping and waving his arms ahead of Thursday’s race, Lyles walked into the Stade de France with the crowd at his side, well aware of the history at stake.

In the end it was Teboco who cruised comfortably to the finish line, flanked by Bednarek on the right and Lyles on the left. Teboco beat his chest after crossing the finish line after claiming the first Olympic gold medal in his country’s history.

Lyles won bronze in the men’s 200m final at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. He was outspoken in his desire for gold in Paris, at one point comparing a NBA championship unfavorable for coming first in an athletics competition.

“You know what hurts me the most is having to watch NBAFinals and they have ‘World Champions’ on their heads,” Lyles said last year. “World Champions of what? United States? Don’t get me wrong, I love the US sometimes, but it’s not the world. It is not the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here thriving and putting their flag on to show they are represented. There are no flags in it NBA.”
