Aging in place
Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley received funding from Santa Clara County to support its efforts to help county-age seniors on the ground.
The non-profit organization helps older adults by making necessary repairs and accessibility modifications for disadvantaged seniors in the South Bay. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors approved funding to rebuild Silicon Valley to provide repairs to eligible homeowners in County Supervisor Joe Simitian’s District 5, which includes Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno.
“The last few years have been difficult for everyone; many people were pushed to the absolute edge by the pandemic and the high cost of living, says Simitian in a press release. “People had to put off home repairs to meet even more urgent needs like food, medicine or paying the mortgage.”
To be eligible for services, homeowners must have a household income at or below 80% of the area median income and demonstrate a need for home repairs.
Creek Trail closure
The Los Gatos Creek Trail will be closed from the Main Street Bridge to the Lexington Reservoir every Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of the month to reduce fuel consumption.
The work the Santa Clara County Fire Department will do from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on those days will help reduce the likelihood of wildfires starting along Highway 17, according to the city’s website. The work will not affect traffic on the motorway.
