Morning commute traffic on Interstate 680 came to a halt Wednesday after a big rig hit an overhead sign and damaged it, the California Highway Patrol said.
The collision happened around 3:50 a.m. on northbound I-680 near the Interstate 580 interchange. According to the CHP, a dump truck hit the sign and there was concern that the sign could fall onto the lanes.
The CHP closed all northbound lanes to allow Caltrans crews to inspect the sign. Cars were diverted off the freeway at the Stoneridge Drive exit. The Stoneridge Drive entrance to northbound I-680 was also closed.
There was no estimated time when the lanes would be open again.
The CHP said the collision caused no injuries and southbound traffic was not affected.
Check back for updates.
