Officers responded to a call about shots fired Wednesday night involved in a collision with an SUV on the Far South Side in the West Pullman neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Just before 7:30 p.m., officers in a squad car with their sirens activated responded to a gunshot. As the squad car entered an intersection in the 500 block of West 107th Street, it collided with a black SUV with two occupants, police said.
The residents, a 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, fled the scene on foot, but were arrested a short distance away, police said. Two officers were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries and both were in good condition, police said. The occupants of the SUV refused medical assistance. Referrals are pending, and the Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
Around the same time as the West Pullman accident, another collision involving a squad car occurred in the Roseland neighborhood, police said.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers with squad car sirens activated responded to a call to assist another officer was heading north in the 11500 block of South State Street when a collision occurred in the intersection with an SUV heading east, police said.
The driver of the SUV, an 88-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for evaluation. A passenger in the SUV, a 32-year-old man, was also taken to the same hospital where he was listed in good condition. One officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital in good condition, police said.
Police said no citations will be issued at this time, and detectives were investigating.
