A Palos Hills man is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 6 in federal court after pleading guilty to illegally exporting firearm parts to Israel, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago.
Amin Betuni, 37, pleaded guilty on August 1 to the single count, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, but prosecutors are likely to seek a lesser sentence.
He admitted in the plea that he sent the weapon parts to people in Israel on at least three occasions beginning in early November 2022.
Parts included rifle barrels, rifle gas blocks and bolt carrier groups. Betuni put false information on shipping labels and hid the gun parts in packages containing auto parts or George Foreman grills, according to his plea.
During a search of Betuni’s home in December 2022, officers found more than 1,200 rounds of assorted ammunition, a shotgun, rifle and handgun, additional bolt carrier groups, and three firearm conversion devices, also known as “Glock switches,” which equip firearms to fire multiple rounds with a single press of the trigger, according to the plea.
The components will be forfeited as part of the settlement.
