The MBTA said the shutdown will improve Braintree branch travel times by 24 minutes.
Another shutdown is coming to the MBTA starting Friday, officials say remind riders. The MBTA is coming stop all Red Line Braintree Branch service between JFK/UMass and Braintree from September 6 to 29 due to track work.
Shuttle buses will replace the Red Line stops at Braintree, Quincy Adams, Quincy Center, Wollaston and North Quincy. Red line shuttle buses will stop at Ashmont.
MBTA officials said they “strongly encourage” Red Line riders to use Middleborough, Kingston and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines during the shutdown for free. However, stops on these lines will be replaced by shuttle buses on the weekends of September 7 to 8 and 14 to 15. Shuttle buses running from Braintree to South Station will replace the service on these weekends.
“The MBTA understands how these service changes affect riders’ daily journeys during this period, but we are committed to improving your journeys in the long term with more reliable, fast and safe service,” the MBTA statement said. “We thank riders for their patience as we deliver this important work and for continuing to run our system.”
Those closures will allow the MBTA to repair 18 miles of Red Line track, the statement said. The MBTA said new repairs will improve Braintree Branch travel times by 24 minutes.
