Nancy Pelosi and President Biden have not spoken to each other since he dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, the former House speaker said in an interview Monday.
Pelosi (D-Calif.) admitted she has not spoken to Biden, 81, since he abandoned his re-election campaign more than two weeks ago during an appearance on CNN Monday.
The last time the two Democrats spoke would then be when Pelosi spoke to Biden before he announced on July 21 that he ended his bid for a second term.
“I asked for a campaign that was going to win,” Pelosi told CBS News Sunday of their conversation. “And I didn’t see it on the horizon.”
She has denied rumors that she led the charge that Democrats forced Biden to withdraw his name from the ballot.
But when asked if everything was “OK” with their relationship on CNN Monday, Pelosi didn’t give a direct answer.
“You’d have to ask him, but I hope so,” Pelosi said. “Look, I love Joe Biden, have respected him for over 40 years.”
The former House speaker reportedly warned Biden that his vote against Donald Trump made it clear to her that he could not win in November, sources previously told CNN and Politico.
Biden reportedly pushed back on — and “sat on” Pelosi — during the tough-love conversation, sources told CNN.
Pelosi has sought to distance herself from the narrative that she led the movement to push Biden out of the race — instead adding to the recent compliments of his legacy as president.
She also praised Vice President Kamala Harris, who took over for Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket.
Pelosi called the former prosecutor “very politically astute” as evidenced by her win in a competitive primary for California attorney general.
