Police said Wednesday they are looking for a “person of interest” in the cold shooting death of a 23-year-old Queens man at his house.
On Sept. 13, Jean Pierre Rengifo-Arteaga was found shot in the head, right forearm and abdomen outside a two-family home in North Corona – with bullet holes left in the door of the victim’s home. The perpetrator was described as 20-25 years old, and wearing a beige shirt, beige pants, black shoes and a black skull cap.
Video shows the suspect walking up to a gate and pointing a gun over a fence.
A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he watched CCTV footage at his home that showed a man walking up to the gate of the victim’s house and firing five shots at Rengifo-Arteaga as he put his keys in the front door.
It is unclear what triggered the attack, police said.
Rengifo-Arteaga was said to be from Ecuador and lived alone, according to neighbors.
“I think the boy was new here,” said a man who did not want to give his name. “He had been in this country three months.”
EMS rushed Rengifo-Arteaga to Elmhurst Hospital but he could not be saved.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
