Law enforcement officers shot an armed suspect Friday night in Aurora after pursuing them from Plano, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.
Illinois State Police are currently investigating the use of force in this incident, a department spokesperson said Saturday.
Several authorities were involved in the hunt for the suspect, the police say. Kendall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for assistance from the Plano Police Department just before 6:45 p.m. following a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street in Plano.
After responding officers found a car they believed was connected to the shooting, they began pursuing the suspect, and the chase ended in a confrontation near Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora. There, the suspect engaged officers in gunfire and was shot, according to Illinois State Police.
The injured suspect was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said.
By 10:30 p.m. Friday, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office had contacted the Illinois State Police to request an investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which police say is “still in its infancy.”
No officers were injured, the police said.
