Both sides of the freeway near Exit 2 remain closed Wednesday night as police investigate the incident, authorities said.
Police shut down a stretch of Interstate I-190 in Worcester on Wednesday after multiple reports of a man with a gun nearby, Massachusetts State Police said.
Troopers responded to reports of an armed man on I-190 in Worcester around 3:40 p.m., state police said in a statement. The suspect is in custody and the scene is secure but, the MSP said, the mile three marker will remain closed as police conduct an investigation into the incident.
MassDOT said at 4 p.m. Wednesday that Exit 2 on I-190 was closed.

As of 5:30 a.m., MassDOT said the road was still closed and motorists should “expect delays.”

There was a shooting in Worcester around 2:13 p.m. Wednesday, Boston News 25 reported. It’s unclear if the suspect arrested on I-190 is responsible for the shooting a few hours earlier. Worcester police did not confirm that the two incidents were related.
