RBC Heritage 2021: Why Dustin Johnson Is the Favorite to Win at Harbour Town

Dustin Johnson is all over the news for his performance at the 2021 Masters. Johnson failed to make the cut at Augusta National this year, but he can’t be hung up over the disappointing result. After all, he is the towering favorite to win the RBC Heritage tournament in his home state!

Dustin Johnson has got to get his game together and head to the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head with plenty of confidence. The South Carolina native has never won his home state event but can put an end to all the chatter with a victory in 2021.

Dustin Johnson is the mighty favorite to win RBC Heritage 2021

There are a few major factors that determine Dustin Johnson as the favorite to win RBC Heritage 2021. The first reason is that Johnson is quite well-versed with the challenging Harbour Town Golf Links course.

The Pete Dye design requires a player to be extremely precise, and Johnson, being a South Carolina native, would have plenty of experience playing at the venue. Hence, he has the capacity to play four decent rounds at the par-71 course.

Furthermore, Johnson also has the highest odds to win the RBC Heritage 2021 at 10-1. Defending champion Webb Simpson trails him at 12-1 according to a proven model from SportsLine.

They claim to have simulated the upcoming RBC Heritage 10,000 times, after which this particular result has been derived. However, the model has also predicted that certain underdogs will make a strong run at the title this year.

But the main aspect is that Dustin Johnson would be raring to win the event in his backyard. He’s never clinched the RBC Heritage title and it’s about time that he does. The missed cut at the Masters will serve as an extra source of motivation.

How has Johnson fared at the RBC Heritage in the past?

Dustin Johnson hasn’t been a regular participant at the RBC Heritage tournament. The South Carolina native has only played at Harbour Town Golf Links five times since turning pro in 2007.

His first two appearances came in 2008 and 2009 and Johnson missed the cut on both occasions. Considering that he was a newcomer on the tour, these results don’t account for much.

After 2009, it took Dustin Johnson nine years to return to the Heritage tournament. However, he’s been participating in the event in successive fashion since 2018. His past three finishes at the tournament have been 16th, 28th, and 17th, respectively.

While it might seem like a huge task to improve your record from 17th to champion, it is possible. Dustin Johnson just needs to channel the right energy from Round 1 at Harbour Town and carry the same momentum till the end of the final round.

There are several players who will pose a tough challenge to Dustin Johnson at RBC Heritage 2021. However, he would be cheered on massively by the limited number of fans who will be attending the event!
