Music superstar Taylor Swift has thrown her support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsing her in the 2024 presidential race.
Swift recently cited AI-generated images of her “supporting” former President Donald Trump and Harris’ stances on a variety of issues as reasons for announcing her choice, saying she was trying to “fight misinformation” with the truth.
Here is her full message to her more than 283 million followers.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to research the current issues and the positions these candidates are taking on the topics that matter most to you. As a voter, I make sure that watching and reading all I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.
“Recently I became aware that AI of ‘I’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential bid was posted on his website. It really raised my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very open about my actual plans for this election as a voter The easiest way to fight misinformation is with the truth.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I am voting for @kamalaharris because she is fighting for the rights and things that I think it takes a warrior to fight for. I think she is a solid , talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of VP candidate @timwalz, who has stood up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.
“I’ve done my research and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all you have to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: Remember, in order to vote, you must be registered! I also find it much easier to vote early.I link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.
“With love and hope, Taylor Swift, childless cat lady”
Swift’s endorsement came at the end of Tuesday’s debate between Harris and Trump, the first and potentially only confrontation between the two candidates, with less than two months to go before the November election.
