Red Sox
There wasn’t much for Red Sox fans to cheer about a 12-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night at Fenway Park, but shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela offered something with the catch of the night in the sixth inning.
The Diamondbacks had already pushed a 2-1 lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth, and looked to add more with runners on the corners and one out. Red Sox reliever Joely Rodríguez, replacing starter Brayan Bello, got Diamondbacks leadoff man Corbin Carroll to pop out to Rafaela for the second out.
Jake McCarthy was up next, getting on a 1-1 pitch and fighting it off with a bloop shot to deep left. It looked like the ball was going to fall for another hit and run for Arizona, but Rafaela rushed back, jumped and made a full over-the-shoulder extension to end the inning.
