One person was injured in an apartment fire Monday night in Grand Crossing on the South Side, the Chicago Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to a call about a fire at a three-story apartment building in the 1400 block of East 69th Place around 1 p.m. 6 p.m., fire officials said.
One person was rescued from the fire and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with injuries. Their condition was not known, says the rescue service. Someone responding to the fire sent a “mayday” emergency call from inside the building, but authorities say no firefighters were injured.
The fire was extinguished at 6:40 p.m., according to the emergency services.
The cause of the fire is not known but is under investigation.
