Refsnyder went 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs on Saturday.
Rob Refsnyder had a career night against the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
Despite a Red Sox loss, Refsnyder recorded his first career multi-home run game. He finished the night 4 for 4 with three RBI to go with the pair of long balls.
The Rangers started a left-armer, and Refsnyder — who is becoming a reliable right-handed bat in Boston’s lineup — took advantage. Both of his home runs came off lefty Cody Bradford, including a solo shot in the first inning to give the Red Sox an early lead.
“He’s been good for us” Alex Cora said after the game. “I know a lot of people just see him as a platoon guy, right? One that faces lefties. We’re confident that he’s a guy that when they come with a right, there’s some good matchups, too.”
Refsnyder blasted another solo shot three innings later that gave Boston a 3-0 lead before Texas rallied late to seal a 7-4 win. Refsnyder was responsible for all but one of the Red Sox runs on Saturday.
Refsnyder doesn’t have the flash or name recognition of some of his peers in the clubhouse, but he quietly provides consistent offensive production in 2024. The outfielder is batting .314 with seven home runs29 RBI and a .909 OPS.
Refsnyder’s performance is crucial as the Red Sox continue to struggle against left-handed pitchers and lack right-handed hitters to combat southpaws. While it didn’t translate into a win Saturday night, Refsnyder helped shut out Bradford in under four innings.
“It was a great night for him,” Cora said.
