Robin’s daughter Zelda calls Jamie “SUPER talented”, but also asks fans to stop sending her the clip.
Fans of Robin Williams asked to get a biopic of the late comedian for ASAP Greenlight after actor Jamie Costa’s incredible imitation of him.
Even though Costa’s recording of the Oscar winner was announced earlier, Monday’s YouTube video titled “ROBIN Test Footage Scene” quickly went viral as Costa presented his Williams in a new raw and heartbreaking light.
The clip shows Costa getting ready to film an episode of the 1982 sitcom “Mork & Mindy” as his co-star Pam Dawber, played by Sarah Murphree, interrupts his line readings to inform Williams that John Belushi , a good friend of his, was found dead that morning.
The “Saturday Night Live” alumnus died of a drug overdose in March 1982 at the age of 33 while staying at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
Costa’s Williams reacts with shock to hear the news. “No, I told you, I was with him. John is not dead, I was with him last night,” he insisted to Dawber.
Dawber then tells Williams, “I can not let what happened to him happen to you. I can not.” When Costa says it didn ‘t happen to him, she replies, “Good. Because if it did, Robin, I would find you and kill you first.”
After Dawber leaves, Williams gathers in front of a mirror and then snaps back into comedy mode as he leaves his trailer to film the sitcom. The emotional scene immediately resonated with fans as they began to sing Costa’s praise on social media and ask for more.
“BLOWN AWAY by #JamieCosta in this ‘test’ footage. WE USE A BIOPIC STATE !,” one writes, as someone else shares, “This is absolutely awesome. Make this movie at length and leave this man NOW!”
Another added, “I really hope when a Robin Williams biopic is made that Jamie plays him because he would do if it were justice and with respect.”
Not everyone was so excited about the clip when Williams’ 32-year-old daughter, Zelda, took to Twitter to ask fans to stop sending it their way.
“Guys, I’m just saying this because I do not think it’s going to stop until I acknowledge it … please stop sending me ‘test material’. I’ve seen it. Jamie is SUPER talented, this is not against him, but You are spamming me an impression of my late father on one of his saddest days is weird. “
Williams died of suicide in 2014 at the age of 63 after battling Lewy’s body dementia.
