Ukraine’s military intelligence service destroyed a Russian MiG-31 and two cargo planes in an attack on a military airfield deep inside Russia earlier this month, according to Ukrainian media.

Five more Russian aircraft were damaged in Ukrainian drone attacks on the Savasleyka military air base in the Nizhny Novgorod region east of Moscow, several Ukrainian outlets reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources in Kiev’s GUR military spy agency.

The attack, carried out on August 16, destroyed a MiG-31K or MiG-31I, according to media reports, and two Il-76 aircraft at the base.

Ukraine had also attacked the Savasleyka base three days earlier, according to reports at the time.

Kiev damaged a fuel depot and a MiG-31 jet in this earlier attack, according to Ukrainian media.
