A stranger punched an elderly man after refusing to let the senior enter the elevator at a busy Lower Manhattan subway station during the evening commute, police said.
The 71-year-old victim was trying to take the elevator from the southbound B, D, F and M platforms at the Broadway-Lafayette subway station around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 10 when the robbery stopped him from getting on, police and sources said.
The attacker then pushed him and punched him several times in the face — with the coincidence of blows causing him to fall and hit his head on the platform, police said.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and treated for a cut to the head and facial bruising and swelling, authorities said.
A surveillance image released by the NYPD late Wednesday shows the attacker wearing a red and black Atlanta Hawks jacket, black pants, white sneakers and shooting a hand truck.
He was still at large as of Friday.
Anyone with information about the brutal attack is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
