Former President Trump recalled Sunday’s apparent assassination attempt during an event on the social media platform X on Monday night, saying he heard the shots fired by Secret Service agents.
The former president said he and a friend he was playing golf with “we heard shots fired in the air, and I guess there were four or five, and it sounded like bullets. But what do I know about that? But the Secret Service immediately knew there were bullets, and they grabbed me.”
“So we’re in the group, and everybody just, we got into the wagons and we went pretty good,” he said.
Trump said an agent “had seen the barrel of an AK-47, which is a very powerful gun, rifle, and he started shooting at the barrel, he started shooting into the bushes. He could just see the barrel.”
Reflecting on the July assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump said, “It was a crazy day, and yesterday you had another one with a different outcome, much better outcome actually,” because no one was killed or injured.
One person was killed and two others were injured by the shooter in the July attempt.
Trump also said of President Biden, “He was very nice, that he called to make sure I was OK.”
