A 17-year-old has been charged after a shooting outside the Chicago Ridge Mall injured another teenager, Chicago Ridge police said Monday.
Charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon were approved against the teenager, who police have not identified, by the Cook County District Attorney’s Office, police said.
Police said they responded to a call about shots fired just after 7 p.m. Saturday outside Dick’s Sporting Goods, 9800 S. Ridgeland Ave.
Four people were involved in a verbal argument inside the store and two of them got into a physical altercation outside near the parking lot, police said.
During the fight, four shots were fired, and one of the shots hit a 17-year-old man in the torso, police said. He was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and later released, police said.
Police said the gun used in the shooting was recovered and their names are not being released due to the ages of both the suspect and the victim.
Police said the 17-year-old who was charged is in custody pending a detention hearing.
