An American man who allegedly shot his wife may have escaped the horrific crime – if it were not for the couple’s young daughter.
A man in Texas who claimed that his partner took his own life while they were fighting was revealed as her alleged killer – when their three-year-old child told the police: “Dad shot mom”.
Dabreon Banks, 27, is accused of shooting dead Kimberly Hernandez, 24, inside their apartment in Houston on Monday night. New York Post reports.
The couple’s granddaughter and 20-month-old son were both inside the home at the time, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
Banks had initially claimed that he and Hernandez “played quarrel” when the gun went off, but later said that she shot herself in the head during a physical altercation over a text message on his phone.
Neighbors told authorities they had heard Banks shout that his wife had just shot herself moments after the shots were heard.
But deputies said the couple’s daughter witnessed the shooting and told them “dad shot mom.”
Police spoke to a young eyewitness who told police that “dad shot mom”. She made a gesture with her hand like a gun “, said prosecutor in court on Wednesday, according to KTRK.
“Officers spoke to another witness who said the same child told her, ‘Dad shot mom.'”
The two children were not injured and are currently being cared for by family members.
