‘The Bodyguard’ gets a modern remake

I will always (again) love you.

One of the most iconic films of the 1990s gets a remake. The Bodyguard was opened in theaters in November 1992 and became a direct smash. Driven by the chemistry between stars Kevin Costner in the Whitney Houston, along with Houston’s memorable version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”, became the film’s 7th greatest film of the year, and raised over $ 121 million. Then there was an even bigger hit on home video and cable.

It was tried to turn The Bodyguard and a franchise, but they never got together. (Believe it or not, at one point Kevin Costner did Discussions with the later Princess Diana about appearing in one Bodyguard Success.) Now the film gets a remake instead, with playwright Matthew López writing a new screenplay based on the concept.

According to Variety, the remake has been under consideration for some time:

Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Pictures, and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback produce the new film. Rideback’s Nick Reynolds will be producing executive. Kasdan was the writer-producer of the original. Lin has been linked to the property since 2011, which has sparked speculation about the potential lead cast for years. Combo from Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson to Channing Tatum and Cardi B flowed. No cast was set up for the López script at this stage.

With the right actors, it’s hard to imagine The Bodyguard 2.0 does not work as well as the first version. The original film was very simple – a bodyguard protects a famous singer from a stalker – but the combination of Costner and Houston, plus Houston music (the film also includes their hit “I’m Every Woman” along with a few other tracks) inevitably prove to the public. Surely the above mentioned people have the recent success of E Star Ass Born, who had a very similar formula and earned $ 430 million, thinking, “We can do this!” And now they try.
