MAPLEWOOD, Mo. – If you’re in the mood for thinly sliced meat, a butcher in St. Louis area among the best in the United States, according to a national survey.
Butcher shop was one of several nominated for national spotlight through USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. A panel recently nominated butchers of many sizes and specialities, and butchers with quality local range fared well.
According to the USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, Bolyard’s meat and provisions in Maplewood was named the country’s third best butcher.

The Choice Awards praised Bolyard’s for its range of fresh fine cuts, including shanks, pâtés, smoked meats, chorizo and charcuterie boards. Unlike many local competitors, Bolyard’s is also a whole animal butcher, meaning they buy and use whole animals.
Bolyard’s owner, Chris Bolyard, is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. The company’s website says it has a strong passion for working with local farmers and producing meat humanely. Bolyard’s is also proud to offer hot meals, catering and courses in how to handle fine cuts.
To earn their place among the Choice Awards, anyone could vote to recognize Bolyard’s as America’s Best Butchers for several weeks until early September. Bolyard’s only trailed John Mull’s Meats of Las Vegas and The Organic Butcher of McLean in Virginia in the voting results.
