After the intense heat brought the highest temperatures of the year to Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, severe storms are now battering the region and have left thousands of customers without power.
According to ComEd’s outage map, over 44,000 customers is without power from 18:40
While many of the earlier outages were reported near the border of Lake and McHenry counties, widespread outages were reported in the northern and western suburbs after a round of severe storms swept through the region.
A severe thunderstorm watch for parts of the region is in effect until 11 p.m
