It is Walz’s second appearance in Boston in two weeks.
Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz will speak 57th International Association of Fire Fighters Convention in Boston on Wednesday morning.
Walz will deliver remarks to one of North America’s largest unions, representing nearly 350,000 firefighters, EMS workers and emergency workers in the United States and Canada.
“Governor Walz, a former union member himself, has a strong record of standing up for unions and delivering for workers — from joining the picket line and passing the most pro-worker package of laws in Minnesota history, to guaranteeing Minnesota- worker [are] paid sick, medical and family leave,” a statement from the Harris-Walz campaign said.
The 57th conventionheld at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center at the Seaport from August 25-30, will be Walz’s second appearance in Boston in two weeks, following his three-day solo tour that included an appearance at a fundraiser in the Back Bay on August 14.
Walz also stopped in Newport, Rhode Island, where the Catholic university hosted the event faced criticism from the Diocese of Providence to do so.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff have also recently made Massachusetts appearances, with Harris in Pittsfield after launch his own presidential campaignand Emhoff i Martha’s Vineyard.
Governor Maura Healy opened the Firefighters Convention and called for national unity.
“We may feel divided as a nation, sometimes we may not agree on everything, but today I want to emphasize the importance of promoting national unity, and the firefighter’s commitment to service, community and country is a powerful example and it is something we can everyone agrees around, she said.
