Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager dished out some much needed advice to his Today viewers about love, weddings and marriage during a special love-themed broadcast. But Bush Hager had a cautionary tale to share for one particularly “organized” chick who wrote into the show.
The viewer explained that they created a “very detailed spreadsheet of the day” for their wedding, but her in-laws “haven’t seen it yet.” She asked, “I’ve sent it to them several times. How do I get them to read it?”
Bush Hager gently offered the bride some advice. “They won’t, they don’t need to read it. That schedule is for you honey, that schedule is for YOU to keep YOU in order,” she explained.
Kotb seemed upset at the thought of getting a “very detailed” schedule for a wedding she was attending. “Look, I understand you want to make sure everything is where you want it to be. But come on,” she said.
Bush Hager added that weddings are “the most fun… when things go awry.”
She then turned to Kotb to share a funny story from a wedding she once attended with her family, including her 8-year-old daughter Poppy.
“Remember at Libby’s wedding when Poppy went under her dress? And was like, ‘She’s wearing underwear!’ That, if you had an overly detailed one…” she recalled. She dragged her thoughts away as she and Kotb began to laugh at the memory. She then mimicked her daughter and announced to the wedding, “‘Don’t worry, Mom! She’s wearing underwear.’
As they recovered, she continued, “Now, if you had things planned minute by minute, it wouldn’t allow that kind of, you know.” She also jokingly asked Kotb if she thought Libby would “love” that she shared that memory with “everyone” on national television.
Kotb, however, still laughed off the story. “I forgot that,” she said.
This isn’t the first time Bush Hager’s kids have called someone out on their underwear. Her eldest daughter, Mila, once announced in a broadcast of Today that her mother”never wear underwear.”
She added, “She’s not wearing it right now! I saw how she changed.” As everyone in the studio laughed, Bush Hager covered his daughter’s face and rushed her off the stage.
Today with Hoda & Jenna airs weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
