Police say several suspects stole a Mercedes from a driveway in Dover, but the car’s owner watched in real time as the vehicle traveled to Somerville.
A Dover man whose car was allegedly stolen from his driveway early Thursday was able to help police recover it thanks to a tracking app.
Dover Police responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from a home around 3 a.m., according to a Boston 25 News Report.
Officers attempted to stop the car, a Mercedes, as it traveled into Needham and onto a freeway, but officers backed off as the driver accelerated to an unsafe speed.
According to the report, the vehicle’s owner was able to use tracking software to monitor the car in real time as it traveled to Somerville. The police were able to recover the car and took it in for treatment.
Investigators said multiple suspects were involved in the theft, though no arrests have been announced. The investigation is ongoing.
