Star Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over by police Sunday morning as he entered the team’s stadium for its NFL Week 1 opener against the Jaguars on a driving violation, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told multiple reporters.
Video footage appears to show Hill lies flat on the stomach outside his car he is handcuffed by the police.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reports Hill was charged with careless driving and got into a verbal altercation with police after being pulled over. He was released after being cited.
Hill, 30, plans to play in Sunday’s game.
Warning: Graphic language
“It’s very upsetting … to see how he was treated,” Rosenhaus said during a televised interview with the NFL Network inside the stadium after the incident.
“It’s unnecessary. There’s no reason Tyreek should have been treated that way.”
Calling the situation “absurd,” Rosenhaus said Hill felt like things were “getting out of hand,” adding that they would speak with legal representation.
The Dolphins host the Jaguars at 1 p.m
“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was stopped for a traffic incident about a block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released,” the Dolphins said in a statement. “Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived at the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
