Tyson Fury’s World Cup would be ruined by Frank Sanchez, says Cuban candidate manager Mike Borao | Boxing news

Tyson Fury’s first defeat would be inflicted by Frank Sanchez, who has made an ‘extraordinary increase’ towards a world championship, says Cuban manager Mike Borao.

Sanchez is within striking distance of WBC champion Fury, having moved up to No. 6 on the WBC rankings with 19 wins, including 14 wins in the first two years of his professional career.

The 29-year-old trains alongside Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at Eddy Reynoso’s gym and could take another step towards a world title fight when he returns against Carlos Negron in Florida on New Year’s Day.

“Frank Sanchez is one of the most active high-profile fighters today,” Borao told Sky Sports.

“Frank was the co-main event for Fury vs Wilder III, he’s been to Canelo’s pay-per-view matches, and he’s now the co-main event for Charles Martin vs. Luis Ortiz’s pay-per-view match.

“His progress has been extraordinary, as well as his undeniable talent.”

Asked if Sanchez could threaten Fury, Borao told Sky Sports: “I think Frank Sanchez beats Tyson Fury today.”

Fury wants his next match scheduled for early 2022, but the WBC has yet to announce Dillian Whyte as his obligatory challenger, leaving him without a confirmed opponent for a quick return.

He told Sky Sports over the weekend: “I’m not really interested, because to be honest it does not really make much sense who I want to fight at the moment.

“It’s who’s available and what makes sense later.”

Sanchez put his claim as a serious challenger by putting Efe Ajagba, another undefeated rival, in a dominant points victory on the underdog of Fury’s recent knockout victory over Deontay Wilder.

Borao, who also manages Charles Martin’s career and advises Robert Helenius, believes Sanchez will be impossible to avoid if he maintains his relentless progress.

“Tyson is not a fool, so I doubt you will soon see a voluntary defense against Frank – he will have to force the problem by beating guys like Efe Ajagba and working towards the obligatory,” Borao said.

“At Frank’s current pace, I have no doubt that he will be number 1 soon.

“The day Frank Sanchez gets the opportunity and fights for a world title is the day he becomes heavyweight champion.

“In My Perfect World, Charles Martin wins the IBF, Robert Helenius wins the WBA, and Frank Sanchez wins the WBC or WBO World Titles in 2022.

“One thing is for sure, I will put every ounce of energy I have to deliver for them.”
