Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie on Friday, updated renderings of the mall’s redevelopment plans, which were given the green light by the village’s planning board a day earlier, were released.
Applications submitted for the “transformative” redevelopment planwhich includes 400 luxury apartments and 15,000 square feet of street-level retail space, was unanimously approved by the planning board Thursday night. The proposal will be presented to the village’s appearance commission at its Aug. 28 hearing.
In February, Westfield Old Orchard announced the engagement of local developer Focus as co-developer for the project, which is expected to break ground in 2025.
“When completed, the new residences, dining, wellness and outdoor amenities will create a North Shore destination unlike any other in Chicagoland, dramatically enhancing the center’s existing offerings,” said a previous press release, adding that the apartments are planned to open to residents in early 2027.
According to officials, the apartments will range from studios to three-bedroom units, with amenities such as a pool, lounge, fitness center, pet spa, co-working spaces and a dog kennel. The space will also include a park and an area for events.
The mall’s redevelopment only began in 2018 when Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield acquired the mall’s former, vacant Lord & Taylor department storewhich will soon be home to Arhaus, Puttshack, ZARA and Pottery Barn among other retailers, the earlier version said.
