Several U.S. personnel were injured after a suspected rocket attack Monday against U.S. and coalition forces at Al-Assad Air Base in western Iraq, a Defense Department spokesperson told ABC News.
“Initial indications are that several US personnel were injured,” the spokesman said. “Base personnel are conducting a damage assessment following the attack. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
A US official confirmed to ABC News that two rockets were fired at the base.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the attack, according to a White House readout from a Situation Room meeting on Monday amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
