While the future of the precarious, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is not planned, a new report claims that the highly anticipated RPG was almost canceled before being transferred to another development studio. Bloodlines 2 faced a rock development cycle since his announcement in 2019 and the title has dropped twice before being indeterminately delayed and worked on at an unknown second studio in February.
Announced as a sequel to one of the greatest RPGs of all time, Bloodlines 2 promised to keep and expand the core of The Masquerade series with new characters, factions, RPG elements, and a new location in Seattle that shares the same universe with the World of Darkness. The only thing the title has shared so far though is that it got an unfortunate development cycle similar to its predecessor. Developed by original creators of Drop out Series after the separation of Interplay, Troika Game quickly released the original Bloodlines incomplete after multiple deadlines and cost overruns. This led to the death of the studio, as the vampire RPG was criticized for its technical problems and extremely underperformed during its initial release, before it later became a cult favorite.
In a new interview with the Swedish website Avanza earlier this month, (via PC Player) CEO Fredrik Wester has revealed this Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was almost canceled by Paradox Interactive earlier this year. Wester said there would be a long discussion within the company as to whether development should continue and after Hardsuit Labs was removed from the title the publisher was prepared to permanently shut down the project. Fortunately, another team has made a promising pitch with formidable ideas for the sequel. Even though the executive president has not publicly announced how a workshop will develop Bloodlines 2 the moment he noticed that the new developer “very renowned and talented“and that Paradox Interactive had the belief that the new studio would meet the expectations of the fans even if the title”still has time.“
Vampire: The Masquerade originally started as a tabletop role-playing game and caused many adaptations including novels, collectible cards, and live-action role-playing games, as well as many video games developed by various studios. Next to that Bloodlines Series, The masquerade Franchise has seen a handful of more players, with the latest, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt Introducing Battle Royale and task players to exterminate other vampires in order to survive the sect war.
It is not clear when Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be released but players can now raise their expectations once again. What once started as a success quickly became unhappy, fortunately a new competent studio took over and was able to overcome the long awaited sequel over its predecessor.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S.
