Venkatesh Iyer made headlines in the recently concluded 2021 IPL Phase 2 while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders. The KKR team management decided to open with the very high left-handed batsman, and they reaped rich dividends thanks to that call. Iyer scored 370 races in 10 matches, averaging 41.11. He also hit 37 fours and 14 sixes on his IPL debut with a strike rate of 128.47. Iyer was also named Man of the Match in Qualifying 2 against Delhi Capitals.
