MANILA, PHILIPPINES – KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue City knocked out as the first champion of the League, beating MJAS Zenith-Talisay City, 89-75, in the Visayas Stage 3 match of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Finals on Sunday at Civic Center in Alcantara City Cebu.
After their seventh defeat early in the third quarter, the KCS switched on the planes and went on the 18-1 Tour which they crowned Shaquille Imperial with a hat-trick giving them a 54-44 lead.
Frances Tamse, Reed Cachwila, Michole Sorela and Bing Ximignano each scored as they put the KCS team a 61-50 lead to fourth.
Then Gilliant Delatore burst into flames in fourth place, scoring eight straight points, leading KCS 81-64 before Sorela scored a long hat-trick to put Mandaue City ahead 88-66.
Aquastars, who got a perfect 10-0 lead in the knockout round, failed to move forward and things turned from bad to worse when Daryl Minina was sent off after being called up for a flagrant foul on Delatore with 5:17 to play.
I told them, let’s try to make history. Let’s give them forty minutes of hell! KCS coach Mike Reyes said.
The KCS win was a lovely revenge after they lost twice to MJAS in the knockout round by an average loss margin of 14 points.
Final MVP Exciminiano led Mandaue City with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
The 32-year-old PBA averaged 13 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals in the Three-Match Finals.
Patrick Kabahoj led the Aquastars with 21 points.
