Highly rated education
A analysis by WalletHub this month ranked the two schools in the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District among the top 20 in California.
Evergreen Valley College is ranked no. 8 in the state, with San Jose City College not far behind at no. 15. Nationally, the two colleges ranked 35th and 71st respectively.
The San Jose-Evergreen Community College District includes the city of Milpitas.
In compiling the rankings, WalletHub compared more than American Association of Community Colleges member institutions across 18 metrics designed to measure cost, educational quality and career outcomes.
The colleges were then rated on a 100-point scale, with Evergreen receiving 64.97 points and San Jose City 63.47.
The top-ranked college in California, Irvine Valley College, scored 67.48, while the top-ranked college in the country, Manhattan Area Technical College, scored 70.63.
“These rankings, while not necessarily comprehensive, give us a baseline by which we can compare our performance in certain areas to our peers in California and across the country,” said Dr. Beatriz Chaidez, the district chancellor, in a statement. “Seeing our hard work quantified in this way is both encouraging and gives us a goal to aim for as we work to improve the educational services we provide to our students and our community.”
Researchers also ranked statewide community college systems, with California coming in at no. 17 among all US states.
