“Back years.” That’s what Mayor Adams announced with us outside Melrose North, a 171-unit supportive housing development in the Bronx. For two years in a row, our administration broke records for creating and preserving and connecting New Yorkers to affordable housing. Success was largely possible because we had a clear directive from the mayor: demolish silos and build bridges to face the moment ahead. Our housing crisis has reached breaking point: a historic vacancy rate – 1.4% – and half of all New York renters paying more than 30% of their income on rent.
