Week 5 must-see matchups – District challenges for Central Texas 6A schools

AUSTIN (KXAN) — There were a handful of district openings in high school football last week, and that will continue this week as a big 6A school kicks in after a bye week.

This is the second week that many schools will have their goodbye week, with a full roster of games starting next week until the end of the regular season in early November.

Bastrop Cedar Creek and Pflugerville Connally kicked off week five on High School Football Live on Thursday night at KBVO.

Here are some of the highlights of the week.

The must-see matches of the 5th week

Westlake, Del Valle, District 26-6A | Friday at 7 pm

#1 on 6A Westlake, after last week’s holiday rolling in three out-of-zone games an average of 33 points. Senior quarterback Cade Klubnik completes 71% of his passes with 923 yards and 10 touchdowns. Junior receiver Jaden Greathouse has 15 catches for 331 yards and four touchdowns. A tough way to start a district game for the Cardinals – they went 0-3 in out-of-district play.

Cedar Park in Georgetown, District 11-5A D1 | Friday at 7 pm

Cedar Park has dominated its territory for over a decade, winning or sharing titles for 13 years. The Timberwolves went 1-2 in out-of-zone play, but all three games were against the 6A teams. Nick Grullon has been a big part of the Cedar Park offense with 24 catches for 367 yards, more than half of their total passing range, including 4 touchdowns.

Georgetown also enters the regional game in 1-2. The Eagles defeated Copperas Cove 63-39 in week two, losing 17-13 to Liberty Hill.

Weiss, Hendrickson, The Pfield at District 11-5A D1 | Friday at 7 pm

Fully Pflugerville ISD matchup to open a district match at The Pfield for Hendrickson and Weiss. The Hawks were 1-2 in the regional game and the Wolves were 2-1 with back-to-back wins over Glenn and Rouse.

These two teams played one of the most memorable matches of 2020, with Weiss winning 49-48.

Mansion Leander, District 11-5A | Friday at 7 pm

Both of these teams are considering the playoffs after missing the end of the season last year. It’s been seven years since Leander entered the season-ending season, but the Lions got off to a 2-1 start, including a one-second loss to Vista Ridge.

Alexander Franklin leads the Lions attack with a 421-yard sprint and four touchdowns. Manor won back-to-back games after losing to LBJ in the opening. Running back Junior Quinten Joyner has a 372-yard run and four touchdowns.
