A West Pullman man who allegedly shot his 12-year-old cousin in the chest earlier this month was charged Monday with attempted murder, authorities said.
Chicago police charged Deandre Warren, 18, with attempted murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a child.
Prosecutors allege he fired a gun equipped with a laser attachment at his younger cousin, wounding him in the arm, chest and abdomen.
Warren fled the scene of the shooting in the North Kenwood neighborhood shortly after it happened on Aug. 5, prosecutors said. Other family members, including children, were present during the shooting, according to court documents. Police said they arrested him Friday in the area of Grand Boulevard on the South Side.
At a hearing Monday morning, Cook County Judge Thomas Nowinski ordered Warren to be held in jail pending trial, records show. Warren is next due in court on August 30.
