What should tourists look for or definitely avoid?
October is just around the corner, which means tourism in Salem is about to skyrocket. The tourist season has become overwhelming for residents and business owners around the city, even resulting in a 3,400% increase in license fees for tour guides. That being said, there are countless iconic sights, such as filming locations for “Hocus Pocus”, Haunted eventsand the websites of Salem Witch Trials. How can we all enjoy the iconic coastal city while leaving space for the residents?
“A smile goes a long way – our small businesses work hard and kindness is truly appreciated!” wrote Lee of Salem in our survey last year. “They put out these great informational messages about taking the T or taking the ferry … if you drive here, there’s not going to be any parking, but that’s the human nature thing of, ‘Oh, that’s not going to happen to me.'” Salem local Matthew Phillion also said.
