The DNC has ended in Chicago, and city officials are already hard at work dismantling security fences and reopening streets around convention venues.
According to the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications, work has already begun to take down fencing around McCormick Place, and streets are scheduled to begin reopening Friday morning.
Things around the United Center will take slightly longer, with fence removal starting Friday and street closures starting over the weekend.
This is how the reopening works.
McCormick Place
Thursday –
The removal of fences will begin at approximately 6 p.m
friday –
3:00 PM All major intersections are expected to be open again by now, as well as the Interstate 55 exit.
sunday –
Cermak will be ready between Michigan and Indiana at 06.00
All streets are expected to be open again by 08.00 at the latest
monday –
All assets are expected to be removed from around McCormick Place by 06.00
On Thursday at the DNC, Kamala Harris officially accepts the Democratic Party’s nomination
United Center
friday –
Removal of fence starts at approx. 01.00
Saturday –
Damen, Wood and Adams are all expected to be fully reopened, and most major intersections are expected to be clear to traffic by midday.
sunday –
All streets are expected to be open by the end of the day.
monday –
All assets are expected to be removed from the convention site.
