Bain & Company’s Global Technology and Cloud Services Practice Chair David Crawford joins Market Domination to discuss AI’s potential impact on the labor market and the software industry.
Crawford believes that AI “presents opportunities for people to be more productive.” He continues, “I’m an optimist. I’ve been in the valley long enough to have seen some of these technical disruptions, and almost all of them had doomsday predictions. I actually think it’s enabling people to find new and higher values . activities, but there will be shifts along the way.”
While some investors are concerned about the future of the software industry given the rise of generative AI, Crawford believes it will present both a “pretty big opportunity” as well as a threat. He explains, “The ability to accelerate your software development pace for both software companies themselves and for companies that do some level of software coding in-house is extraordinary.”
“To get the value out of this, you have to have people doing their work in a different way. And so it requires change programs for business diagnostics, all the things that you have to do to get value out of it. It’s not like cloud there you can just deploy the technology and get value,” adds Crawford.
