At her concert at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, Sabrina Carpenter joked about how she “got the mayor impeached.”
“Damn what now?” the “Espresso” singer said during a break between songs. “Shall we talk about how I got the mayor indictedor…”
The pop star’s joke was a reference to her The “Feather” music video.which was filmed in a Brooklyn church and led to the demotion of lead pastor Msgr. Jamie Gigantiello.
Gigantiello is a friend of Mayor Adams and was the mood earlier this month in connection with one of several corruption investigations of the mayor.
Diocese of Brooklyn internal investigation into how the music video “Fjäder” was allowed to happen reportedly led to further investigation into Gigantiello’s relationship with the mayor.
“What I can say is that the diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in any investigation, including conduct at individual parishes or involving any priest,” the Brooklyn diocese told the Daily News after Gigantiello was sued.
Neither Carpenter nor Gigantiello was mentioned in the incriminating documents against Adams. But the mayor was prosecuted by the Manhattan attorney’s office, not the Brooklyn attorney’s office, which sued Gigantiello.
Brooklyn investigators apparently hoped to establish Gigantiello’s connection to Adam’s friend Frank Caronethe mayor’s former chief of staff who is running his re-election campaign.
Gigantiello and Carpenter crossed paths in 2023, then she sought and received his approval to film the “Feather” music video. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Williamsburg.
The video shows Carpenter dancing through the church and includes a casket with the words “RIP B—h.” After its release, church leaders expressed outrage. Bishop Robert Brennan even rededicated the church after demoting Gigantiello.
Afterwards, Carpenter brazenly wore a shirt that said “Jesus was a carpenter” for her performance at Coachella.
