Wizkidseng “Essence” mat Tems has reached another level of success in the Adult R&B market as its popular single hit the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.

According to Billboard, “Essence” is Wizkid’s first adult R&B No.1 for his third appearance on the charts. He had previously topped the charts with a feature of Drake’s “One Dance” with Kyla and Beyonce and SAINt Jhn’s “Brown Skin Girl” with Blue Ivy Carter.

Directed by Nigerian artist’s second album Made in Lagos, “Essence” first proved its popularity in the charts, as it spent four weeks at number 1 on the mainstream R & B / Hip-Hop airplay charts in September. The single was released in early April with one Parry music video which has now reached 37 million views on YouTube.

“This song has become emblematic to be out again,” he says in an interview with Billboard. “Then a narrative started on the internet that the song is the song of the summer – and we took that energy and ran with it.”

He adds, “We just got out of the crazy pandemic … Afrobeats just spreads love around a room when you play it.”
