A three-vehicle crash in the South Loop early Saturday morning left a 21-year-old woman dead and two others seriously injured after they were ejected from their vehicle, Chicago police said.
A tow truck driver, who fled the scene and has not been identified by police, backed into an SUV in the 100 block of W. Roosevelt Road at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday. The SUV then struck a third vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and hit a wall, police said.
Three people were ejected from this last vehicle which hit a wall: a 21-year-old woman, a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man. All suffered serious head injuries and were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The 21-year-old woman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.
The driver of the SUV that struck the victims’ vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation, Chicago police said.
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.
