CNN pressed Kamala Harris spokesman Michael Tyler straight out about why the Democratic presidential nominee has not held a press conference since President Biden announced last month that he would not seek re-election and endorsed his vice president instead.
“Would it kill you to have a press conference?” host Jim Acosta asked Tyler on Wednesday night. “Why hasn’t she had a press conference?”
Harris is expected to formally accept the Democratic nomination at next week’s convention in Chicago. She and her choice for vice president, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have hosted many crowded rallies since announcing they would run together on August 6.
When the election takes place at 82 daysthere has been a growing demand for the couple to face issues.
Tyler reasoned that Harris and Walz have been busy campaigning across the country since suddenly becoming the Democratic Party’s presidential nominees. He insisted they will “absolutely” hold press, but would not commit to a time or place other than to repeat Harris’ previous promise to have the candidates sit down with reporters “before the end of the month.”
Harris’ Republican challenger, former President Donald Trump, held a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate last week and is hosted by another at his golf club in New Jersey on Thursday.
Trump and Harris are scheduled to be debated on ABC on September 10.
“I look forward to it,” Harris wrote on social media last week when that date was confirmed.
Trump has pushed on two more debatesincluding one to be moderated by Fox Newswhere the former president enjoys firm support.
Biden chose to end his candidacy after a historically poor performance in his debate against Trump on June 27.
