Adele is known for moving fans to tears with her music, but the Grammy Award-winning singer lost some of her own after a surprise reunion with a former high school teacher.

The emotional moment happened during the British Powerhouse’s ITV Concert Special, “An Audience with Adele”, which was broadcast in the UK on Sunday evening.

During the pre-recorded concert, the pop superstar asked a question from Hollywood actress Emma Thompson, who asked if there had been anyone in her past who supported, inspired or protected her from the promises and tribulation of life.

In response, Adele opened up about the impact Madame McDonald, her English teacher at Chestnut Grove Academy, had on her.

The London-born singer shared: “I had a teacher at Chestnut Grove (South London High School) who taught me English. That was Miss McDonald … She really brought me into English literature. Like, I was always obsessed. with English and of course now I write texts. “

“She was so bloody cool. So engaged,” Adele added, recalling that McDonald’s often wore sequins and gold bracelets. “She really cared about us, and we knew she cared about us.”

Thompson then revealed that McDonald, who had not seen Adele for 20 years, was in the audience. It was time for the singer, who is used to surprising fans at her concerts, to leave them surprised.

In the clip shared on ITV’s Twitter account of the highly anticipated television UK concert special, Adele embraced her former mentor after she was brought on stage.

“I’m so proud of you,” McDonald said as Adele cried tears of joy.

During their exchange, the “Easy On Me” hitmaker told McDonald, “You really changed my life.”

“Now, I have to do my whole face again,” the 33-year-old star joked as he wiped away tears. She then called on host Alan Carr to come in and enthuse the audience with a song, while she went on to regain her composure

After the special aired, Adele took to Twitter to share her excitement at the reunion.

“Home Sweet Home. I’ve always dreamed of doing An Audience With …”, she wrote next to a series of pictures from the television special, adding: “There was so much love in the room for everyone else, it happened like this felt. a gig! Everyone was raucous and nasty for it! And my teacher Mrs. McDonald was there, it was just heaven.

“An Audience With Adele” was filmed earlier this month in the London Palladium in front of a star-studded audience that included Samuel L. Jackson, Jodie Comer and Idris Elba. The show airs a week after a similar US TV special, “Adele One Night Only,” which includes an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She is currently promoting her new album, “30”, which is her fourth studio album and the first released since 2015.

The project, which focuses on Adele’s healing process following her divorce from Simon Konecki, has won widespread acclaim from music critics.
